From Intern to Full Time: Daybreak’s Community Coordinator

As our company continues to grow, we’re always excited to have new talent join our team. Daybreak’s Marketing department is happy to introduce our new Community Coordinator, although she’s already a familiar face to many at our company.

Meet Roxanne

What is your role at Daybreak?
I spent the last year or so as an intern in the Marketing department here at Daybreak, focused mostly on supporting various PR initiatives. I really enjoyed it, but I have always wanted to pursue community management. Good news – I’m now going to be doing just that! I’m happy to report that I am now a full-time member of the Community team, taking on the role of Community Coordinator.

What first interested you to work at Daybreak?

Last summer I was searching for an internship in the game industry, and I got incredibly lucky when I stumbled across Daybreak’s opening. I was familiar with a handful of their titles and the studio was close to home so I went for it! Once I started my internship, I knew I wanted to stay. I love the company culture and the people that work here, and I’ve always felt at home. The most important thing, though, is the fact that coming into the studio everyday doesn’t feel like work to me – it’s a lot of fun.

So far, what has been the most exciting project you’ve worked on?

During H1Z1’s Fight for the Crown, I held interviews with a handful of the teams who competed in the tournament. This was one of the first times I really got to spend a lot of time interfacing with some of our players, and I really enjoyed getting to talk to them. I’m very excited that talking to our players is now going to be a part of my day-to-day job!

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

Like I mentioned, I’m definitely looking forward to being able to spend a lot more time communicating directly with our players. I think having Daybreakers out and available in the community is so important, and I’m more than happy to be someone that players can come and talk to when they have ideas, questions, or concerns.

What do you find interesting being in the video game industry?

Can my answer be everything? I’ve been a passionate gamer since I was around 7 years old, and it’s an interest that I’ve kept up my whole life. I’ve always wanted to end up with a career in the gaming industry, even if I wasn’t always sure what exactly I wanted to do. Now that I’m here, I love everything about it including the culture, the events, the communities, and especially getting to spend every day making contributions to some pretty awesome video games.

Which games are you currently playing and why?

I’m constantly switching up the games I play – there are so many good ones out there! Recently I’ve been playing a lot of Terraria because it’s a great way to relax and unwind at the end of the day. If my day has been a little more stressful, though, I might group up with friends for some Left 4 Dead 2. Shooting zombies is also therapeutic, but in an entirely different way.

What advice would you give to other interns interested in transitioning to full time employment?

If you’re looking to turn your internship into a full time job, you need to go above and beyond to integrate yourself with the company in the short time you’re there. Even when I was only expecting to be at Daybreak for a 10-week summer internship, I spent a lot of my time out of the office playing our games, reading forums, and watching Twitch streams so that I could really get a good understanding of what I was working with. If you care a lot about what you’re doing, it will definitely show, and it will definitely pay off.

Congratulations, Roxanne! We’re always looking for new talent as our company continues to grow. Interested in an internship or full time position? You can check out our career opportunities here: www.daybreakgames.com/careers
